He affirmed that the judiciary remains accessible to all, promising that justice will be administered where due.
Clarifying recent confusion, the CJI addressed reports suggesting the Supreme Court had initially refused to engage with the ongoing issues. He explained that no formal petition had been submitted previously, only a representation, which is insufficient for initiating judicial review. This clarification aimed to dispel any misunderstandings and emphasize the procedural requirements necessary for the court’s intervention.
As new petitions were formally lodged, accusing law enforcement of excessive force during the protests on July 20, the Supreme Court has agreed to schedule these cases for a hearing on the upcoming Monday. This move indicates the court’s readiness to examine the allegations and ensure that the claims are judiciously assessed.
The CJI also issued a word of caution regarding misleading reports that inaccurately portrayed the court’s actions as a refusal to hear the matter.
