Recent discussions between India and the United States regarding a potential trade agreement have been described as positive and collaborative by leaders from both nations, despite reports suggesting otherwise. Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor have both refuted claims that India turned down a fast-track trade deal with the US, labeling such reports as “false” and “misleading.”
Minister Goyal highlighted that his recent engagement with US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer was fruitful, underlining a shared dedication to crafting a balanced and advantageous trade agreement. In parallel, Ambassador Gor characterized the dialogues as constructive, noting that both countries are still actively involved in the negotiation process.
Adding to the optimism, Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agarwal assured that the negotiations are advancing smoothly. He mentioned that the framework for the agreement is already in place, with both nations simply waiting for the right moment to finalize and sign the deal.
US officials have echoed this sentiment, expressing confidence that an interim trade agreement could be reached in the near future. This reflects ongoing collaboration and diplomatic efforts between New Delhi and Washington, as they work towards strengthening their economic ties.
