IndiGo, India’s largest airline, has announced an increase in fuel charges for both domestic and international flights, effective for bookings made from October 6, 2026. This adjustment comes in response to a significant rise in Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices, which have surged by over 14% month-on-month, impacting operating expenses across the aviation sector.
For domestic travelers, the revised fuel charges will vary according to the distance of the journey. Passengers on routes up to 500 km will face a fuel charge of ₹375, while those traveling between 501–1,000 km will incur a charge of ₹600. Flights covering 1,001–1,500 km will see a charge of ₹900, and routes from 1,501–2,000 km will have a ₹1,150 charge. For journeys exceeding 2,000 km, the charge will be ₹1,300.
On the international front, IndiGo has set specific charges based on the destination. For flights within SAARC countries up to 500 km, the charge will be ₹1,000, increasing to ₹3,000 for longer routes within the region. Flights destined for Southeast Asia, the Gulf, the Middle East, North Asia, and East Asia will have a fuel charge of ₹5,500, while routes to Africa will incur a ₹6,000 charge. For European destinations, the charge will be ₹10,000.
IndiGo has clarified that these adjustments aim to partially offset the increased operational costs due to the rising fuel prices while striving to minimize the impact on passengers. The airline emphasized its commitment to monitoring fuel prices and market conditions to make any necessary adjustments in the future.
