Opsio, a Swedish company specializing in cloud and artificial intelligence technologies, has unveiled PrismIQ, an innovative automated visual inspection service aimed at enhancing real-time defect detection in manufacturing processes. India has been chosen as the inaugural market for the commercial deployment of this technology, with plans for an international launch on the horizon. PrismIQ utilizes advanced industrial cameras integrated with deep-learning models that have been specifically trained on the products of individual manufacturers. This system is adept at identifying production issues such as surface defects, cracks, contamination, dimensional inconsistencies, and assembly errors during the manufacturing process.
The system’s inspection capabilities are facilitated by edge hardware installed directly on production lines, enabling rapid processing of inspection results without depending solely on manual inspections. Furthermore, the data generated by PrismIQ can be seamlessly integrated with existing PLC and SCADA infrastructures, aiding in automated sorting and decision-making on production lines. Opsio designed the platform to overcome the constraints of manual inspection, especially on high-speed manufacturing lines where scrutinizing each product individually poses a challenge. The platform incorporates an active-learning system that leverages production data to improve detection models over time.
PrismIQ distinguishes itself from traditional standalone vision software by offering a comprehensive end-to-end service. Opsio takes charge of configuring cameras, lenses, and lighting, along with developing and validating models, integrating with factory systems, and managing ongoing operations. This service package also includes operator training, access to quality dashboards, and regular performance evaluations. According to Opsio, the process from initial feasibility assessment to production deployment typically takes between eight to 12 weeks.
The decision to launch PrismIQ in India first is attributed to the country’s burgeoning manufacturing sector and Opsio’s established operations there, including an AI Lab in Bengaluru dedicated to developing and testing applied artificial intelligence solutions for industrial applications. The technology is engineered from Opsio’s headquarters in Karlstad, Sweden. Initially, the service is available to manufacturers in sectors such as automotive, electronics, food and beverage, and pharmaceuticals. The engagement process begins with a feasibility study and proof-of-concept using the manufacturers’ product samples.
