Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently underscored the burgeoning defence manufacturing sector in Uttar Pradesh, emphasizing the strategic impact of BrahMos missiles, which are reportedly causing concern for Pakistan. Speaking at the inauguration of the fourth edition of the UP International Trade Show in Greater Noida, Shah highlighted the influx of investments into the six nodes of the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor, including Jhansi, Chitrakoot, Lucknow, Agra, Aligarh, and Kanpur.
Shah specifically mentioned the BrahMos Integration and Testing Facility located in Lucknow and the production of AK-203 assault rifles in Amethi as key examples of the state’s expanding capabilities in defence manufacturing. The Lucknow facility, which began operations in May 2025, is tasked with the assembly, integration, and testing of the supersonic cruise missile. The first batch of missiles produced there was dispatched in October 2025. This facility represents a significant investment of approximately ₹300 crore across nearly 200 acres, aimed at bolstering indigenous defence production and promoting ancillary industries and skilled employment opportunities.
Additionally, Shah noted that Uttar Pradesh’s improving law-and-order situation, coupled with its growing industrial base, is attracting more investment to the region. He praised the state’s One District, One Product initiative, which is designed to expand local industries and create more employment opportunities for young people in the state.
The UP International Trade Show 2026, being held from September 25 to 29, brings together a diverse group of participants, including manufacturers, MSMEs, exporters, artisans, startups, investors, and international buyers. This event serves as a platform to showcase Uttar Pradesh’s manufacturing and industrial prowess to a global audience.
