Google has launched its Gemini in Chrome artificial intelligence features for Android users in India, enhancing the Chrome browser with AI-powered capabilities. This update allows users to utilize AI for webpage summaries, integration with Google services like Gmail and Calendar, and various web-based tasks, directly within the Chrome browser.
The Gemini in Chrome AI functions as an assistant, offering a new auto-browse feature available for both desktop and Android devices, specifically for Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers in India. This feature enables the AI to autonomously navigate websites and complete tasks such as product comparisons, deal finding, event ticket bookings, restaurant reservations, and appointment scheduling. These tasks, usually requiring multiple actions across various webpages, can now be handled by the AI in a streamlined manner.
With the capability of AI agents to interact directly with websites, Google has implemented safety measures to mitigate potential risks. The Gemini AI is equipped to identify threats, including prompt-injection attempts, and users may be required to confirm sensitive actions before completion. These safeguards are crucial in preventing unauthorized changes, form submissions, or transactions initiated by the AI on behalf of users.
The extent of multi-step tasks users can perform with the auto-browse feature is dependent on their subscription level. Google AI Pro subscribers are allowed up to 20 multi-step requests daily, whereas Google AI Ultra subscribers can make up to 200 requests per day. This expansion of AI capabilities within Chrome marks a shift from simply querying AI to using it for executing tasks across the web, bringing more agentic AI functionalities to users.
