India triumphed over Pakistan in a gripping final to retain their Asian Games men’s cricket title, securing a 19-run victory at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan. This win marks a significant achievement for India’s cricket team, as they continue their dominance over Pakistan in T20 internationals.

Batting first, India set an imposing target by reaching 211/6. The innings was propelled by a swift half-century from Abhishek Sharma, which allowed India to achieve their highest Powerplay score against Pakistan in T20Is, with 81/2. Although Pakistan’s bowlers, including Arafat Minhas, Ahmed Daniyal, and Abrar Ahmed, managed to slow down the Indian innings during the middle overs, India’s Tilak Varma was instrumental in regaining momentum. Varma’s unbeaten 51 off just 22 balls, in conjunction with Shivam Dube’s contribution of 27, enabled India to surpass the 200-run mark.

Pakistan’s chase was led by Hasan Nawaz, who made an impressive unbeaten 96 off 51 deliveries. Nawaz formed a critical 87-run partnership with Saim Ayub, putting India under substantial pressure. However, the Indian bowling attack, featuring key performances from Washington Sundar and Jasprit Bumrah, managed to regain control as the match progressed. Sundar’s effective 18th over and Bumrah’s tight penultimate over were pivotal in disrupting Pakistan’s pursuit.

In the end, Pakistan required 33 runs from the final over. Despite the challenging target, India maintained their composure, with Shivam Dube successfully defending the last over to clinch the victory. This triumph not only secured another Asian Games gold medal for India but also highlighted their prowess and strategic acumen in T20 cricket.
