On Monday, Health Minister Pankaj Singh called for a comprehensive review of the situation. Singh instructed hospitals to adhere strictly to established protocols for treatment, patient care, and home care. Additionally, healthcare workers are receiving training to improve their ability to identify symptoms and monitor patients effectively. The minister reassured the public that there is no cause for alarm, as Delhi is well-equipped with sufficient hospital beds, medical professionals, medications, and essential medical resources. Singh also advised residents to practice good respiratory and hand hygiene, wear masks in crowded places, avoid close contact with individuals exhibiting respiratory symptoms, and seek professional medical advice rather than resorting to self-medication.
While the current number of H1N1 cases is on the rise, it remains below the figures recorded in previous major outbreak years in Delhi, where cases exceeded 3,000. Health officials are closely monitoring the situation and have bolstered hospital preparedness in response to the increase in cases. The city’s medical facilities are on high alert, ensuring that they can effectively manage the situation should it escalate further.
Doctors attribute the uptick in influenza cases to several factors, including seasonal changes, limited uptake of influenza vaccinations, and increased testing for flu-like symptoms among patients.
